The Wisdom Quotes we used were coupled with excerpts taken from a lecture Dave gave titled, Spiritual Enlightenment through the use of Effective Communication. The lecture was created to provide a clearer picture on why this method of communication was and still is effective in conveying its message.

As with any lesson, we begin by outlining the Learning Objectives:

  • What is Spiritual Enlightenment?
  • What is Effective Communication?
  • Explore various methods of specific Effective Communication, which convey Spiritual Enlightenment
In brief, both Spiritual Enlightenment and Effective Communication were defined as follows:

Moustafa Gadalla and Effective Communication

The author of the book Egyptian Mystics, African scholar Moustafa Gadalla provides us with some insight on Effective Communication and the different modes used by our fore-parents.

In the section called, Reaching the Hearts and Minds, located on pg. 161, he states the following.

Effective Communication

Egytpian Mystics

There is a human tendency to overlook, deny, or ignore one’s shortcomings. In order to learn, develop, and achieve it is easier to see oneself in his/her surroundings.

To effectively communicate and influence changes in people, several forms are utilized by the mystical seekers, such as:

Storytelling, Poetry, Folkloric songs and dancing, Proverbs, Humor or a combination of some or all the above modes.

Egyptians (Africans) have an endless reservoir of such forms of teaching knowledge. These modes become the mirror in which one sees oneself through the different actors, actions, and interactions. They also cover every aspect of life and are easy to accept and adopt in such friendly/happy formats.

The different modes emphasize harmonic relationships, character building, societal duties, work, ethics, accountability, etc. These various expressions are found in the teachings of the mystical aspirants in their various fellowships, and are also demonstrated. All forms of mystical teachings have multiple meanings, depending upon how much or on what level the individual can grasp.

With the show’s primary focus on Proverbs as a method of effective communication, Moustafa Gadalla gives us an excellent definition on page 163:

Proverbs

Proverbs are a type of literature that is distinguished/characterized by concise expression, clear meaning(s), an effective comparison (contrast), humor (as most of them are) and good writing. Each proverb has obvious and deep meanings.

In order for us to uncover the “deep” meanings in each proverb Dr. Muata Ashby tells us in The 42 Precepts of Maat (page 39)that we must:

Listen to the wisdom teachings

Reflect on those teachings

Meditate on the meaning of the teachings

All of these are done through Practice.

Let us continue to honour our fore-parents and keep our custom alive because if we don’t:

Ears that do not listen to advice, accompany the head when it is chopped off.

See y’all next week.
