Literature functions as a major socializing agent especially in the educational forum. It tells students who and what their society and culture values, what kind of behaviors are acceptable and appropriate, and what it means to be a decent human being. Hear 2 Help You understands that African-American students cannot find themselves and people like them in the books they read. It is important that they receive a powerful message about how they are undervalued in both school and society.
