First, We would like to thank TCN for the wonderful year that we have had. There were so many highlights we had this year, and we couldn’t have done with without MyTCN and as well as you, the viewers.
It is the Holiday Season, and most parents are trying to figure out, “What the heck do I get my teenager this Christmas?”
Most will opt out and just throw money in a card, but if you really want to win your teenager over, today we are going over the pop culture crazes that have taken over our young minds.
Sit back and have a laugh.
Enjoy.

FORTNIGHT
Parents who are losing the battle against their children’s Fortnite addiction are turning to professionals.
Desperate to see some semblance of the child they had before the post-apocalyptic shooter game, parents are forcing kids into rehab, reports Bloomberg.
Played by more than 200 million users, the Epic Games Inc. creation is free to play yet has made at least $1.2 billion on the sale of the V-Bucks, the in-game currency.
It’s also costing kids sleep, decent grades and a normal life, the story said. British behavioral specialist Lorrine Marer, who works with kids battling gaming addiction, told Bloomberg:
“This game is like heroin. Once you are hooked, it’s hard to get unhooked.”
Michigan mom Debbie Vitany said in the article that her son Carson, 17, has been logging into play Fortnite up to 12 hours a day.
So, we join the parents who say the game has a hold on children. And, yet, we also agree with the cries of JUST PARENT ALREADY.
With success does come some adversity, and the makers of this ever so popular game is facing some.
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro is suing the makers of video game Fortnite for using his “Carlton Dance.”
The actor argues that his famous dance to Tom Jones song, “It’s Not Unusual” has been unfairly copied by the game.
His character Carlton Banks performed the moves frequently in the 1990s sitcom, which also starred Will Smith.
Fortnite offers users signature moves, known as “emotes” for their avatars to use on the battlefield during the popular game.
It launched the “Fresh” emote, which involves the character doing an enthusiastic dance by swaying his arms from side to side, earlier this year.
Mr Ribeiro has often performed the dance since he debuted it on the show in 1991, including incorporating it into a performance on US Strictly Come Dancing equivalent Dancing With The Stars.
In legal documents seen by TMZ, Mr Ribeiro says that he is in the midst of copyrighting the move, and that the game mimicked it without his permission.
He is the latest star to attack Fortnite makers Epic Games over its use of musicians’ and actors’ dance moves.
Earlier this year rapper 2 Milly announced that he would be suing the company over its use of his own dance, the “Milly Rock”.
Fortnite has more than 200 million players and makes some of its money by charging users for downloadable features such as dance moves and outfits for their characters.
Another actor, Donald Faison, also expressed concern earlier this year after he noticed similarities between a Fortnite emote and a dance performed by his character Christopher Turk to the Bell Biv DeVoe song Poison on medical sitcom Scrubs.
“Dear fortnite… I’m flattered? Though part of me thinks I should talk to a lawyer..”
Mr Ribeiro is also suing the makers of basketball game NBA 2K, Take-Two Interactive, for using the dance. He wants both companies to stop using it in their games.
Both companies have been approached for comment.
Epic Games who is the mastermind behind the game’s success is also the creators behind Unreal Tournament. The game originated in 1999.
As of November, the game has had approx. 200 million users worldwide and growing. With the release of season 7 just around the corner with it’s new Christmas skins and a Fornite World Cup with $100 million in prize money on the line, Epic Games is set to grow it’s fan base even more.

Snapchat
You may have heard about Snapchat, the mobile app that allows users to capture videos and pictures that self destruct after a few seconds. When a user sends a message they get to decide whether it will live for between 1 and 10 seconds. After that it’s history.
It’s free to download the app and free to send messages using it. It has become hugely popular in a very short space of time, especially with young people.
It is simple to use; you take a picture using your camera phone, select recipients from your contacts, decide how long you want the message to be visible for (up to 10 seconds), and click send. For the recipient, the process is very like getting a text message, simply tap to view a snap.
Users can add friends from their phone/device contact lists in addition users can now add friends who are nearby them, so if users are hanging out in a group – it is now easier for them to connect and become friends.
Here’s a list of some of the more popular features
Snapchat Lenses
One of the most popular features of Snapchat are the Lenses, which allow users to add fun real-time special effects and sounds, change their voice in videos, face swap with friends, or even super-impose a face from your photo gallery onto your face.
Snapchat Stories
Users can compile photos/videos for all their friends to view and publish them as a Story. Unlike normal Snaps, Snapchat Stories last for 24 hours and can be viewed more than once. Teens like this feature as it allows them to share snapshots of their lives from the last 24 hours with all of their friends.
Snap Chat Memories
Snapchat Memories was created so users could show each other their photos from the app. Users can also search through memories using different tag words associated with the photos for example cat, hug, selfies etc.
Snapchat Discover and Live Stories
Snapchat now shows a range of news and entertainment videos on its ‘discover’ feature. Here you have access to articles and videos from their media partners. These small ‘snaps’ make it easy to keep up-to-date with your favourite brands.
There you have it, a brief overview of Snapchat and its features. Hopefully, this will help bridge the gap between parents and their children.
Abbreviations
Everyone is LAZY now, and don’t want to type out a complete sentence.
To be honest, using Abbreviations or Acronyms is actually a great studying strategy, and if used properly can yield great results.
Let us share some of these abbreviations with you; so that when you teen say’s something smart, you can smack them. (Hee Hee).
HashTags
Hashtags are used mostly on social media sites. They rocketed to fame on Twitter. But now you can use hashtags on other social platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Google+.
Anyone sharing content on a relevant topic can add the hashtag label to their message. Others searching for that topic, can search for that label to find other messages on that same social media platform.
They are actually very useful in business, and are not just for the teenagers; for example.
The #FollowFriday (or #FF for short) hashtag is a simple way to network with others. On Fridays, you give a shout out to people whose tweets you find helpful. This is a key way that followers get our attention, and we’re likely to follow them back.
Want your content to spread further? Use such hashtags when sharing your own content, and maximize who can see your content.
